We have reluctantly joined the 21st Century, so if you would like you can make an ELECTRONIC PAYMENT TO the BSV Chicago, for annual dues, Ball Tickets, etc; the Brandenburg Schuetzenverein-Chicago, Zelle Account is:  BSVschatzmeister@gmail.com

After visiting with us we are frequently asked questions about the beautiful home of the BSV, the DANK House Chicago. While it is generally assumed that we here are a DANK Club, that is actually not correct, we are our own organization that has been resident at the DANK for more than 30 years. In that time, we have grown to truly appreciate the important work that the DANK does in keeping German culture and language thriving in Chicago, and across the Midwest through DANK’s many affiliate chapters. For more on the DANK and the building that serves as our home, click the link below.

Speaking of interesting links, here is a link to the video of our club on Youtube. Take a look, you will see many familiar faces. Pictured, Inga (foreground) and Peter.

The Schuetzenverein tradition in Chicago extends back at least 150 years, as the article below illustrates. Interestingly Chicago’s Schuetzen Park was located less than two miles, exactly due south from the current home of the BSV. For an interesting article on Schuetzen Park as well as its successor, the world famous Riverview Amusement Park, click this link. https://drloihjournal.blogspot.com/2023/12/schuetzen-to-riverview-park-from-cradle-to-grave.html

According to Wikipedia there are over 15,000 Schuetzenvereine in Germany!

For an interesting look back at the roots of our own, Chicago BSV and, a snapshot glance of America at the end of the Cold War, click on this link. http://www.coldwarhistory.us/Exhibitions/Articles/Brandenburger_Schutzenverein/brandenburger_schutzenverein.html The author of this website, Werner Juretzko passed away in 2018 after a long and interesting life. The Schuetzenverein tradition is unfamiliar to many Americans, even those with German roots. For an amusing take on a first timers exposure to our club, check out local bon vivant, Fuzzy his article here. https://fuzzyco.com/news/chicago/bsv.html

DW also has a take on the Schuetzenverein Tradition. For a glimpse of how they do it in Germany click the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLvDELJ2FHI

If you have read all of the above, and your still here you will probably be interested to know that the world’s largest Schuetzenfest happens each year in July, in Hannover, Germany. Click here to visit their website. https://schuetzenfest-hannover.de/
